Read is an ebook, document, and read-aloud app published by AI Northstar Tech Private Limited. Core reading works without an account. Read does not contain advertising or sell personal data.
Your imported books, local files, library index, reading position, bookmarks, highlights, notes, tags, reader settings, voice settings, and local audio cache are stored on your device. On-device speech and on-device voice profiles do not send book text or reference audio to Read's servers. Remove an item in Read, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app to remove this local data.
Read sends data online only when an online feature needs it. Production connections use HTTPS.

When a reading or speech request fails, Read may send a bounded diagnostic containing the app version, platform, reader stage, file format, a one-way book hash, provider category, service host, status or error code, character count, and timing. It does not include the book text. A report you submit manually can also include the description, screenshot, and annotations you choose to send. Reports are kept privately for up to 30 days and then scheduled for deletion.
Read creates a random installation identifier and device-held signing key. The installation identifier, public key, signed challenge, app package and platform details, timestamps, and—on eligible Play installs—a Google Play Integrity token are used to issue short-lived service credentials, enforce rate limits, and prevent misuse. Read does not use the advertising ID.
Read uses service providers only to operate the feature you request: Cloudflare for protected APIs and storage, Modal for hosted processing, OpenAI and Fish Audio for optional cloud speech or voice processing, Google for Play Integrity, and public catalog or metadata services such as Open Library. A feature may also use a custom provider that you configure. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. Read does not share data for advertising, data-broker sales, lending, or creditworthiness.
Cloud speech, conversion, summary, and question responses are marked private and are not intentionally persisted by Read's proxy. Infrastructure and downstream processors may retain limited operational records under their applicable terms. Shared-shelf books remain until removed by the service operator. Remote voice references remain with the selected voice provider until deleted. Removing a voice profile in the app removes its local recording and settings; to request deletion of a remote voice reference, shared-shelf item, or support report, email the address below.
Read is not designed specifically for children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising or profiling.
