Read has one purpose: turning the article on the page you choose into a customizable read-aloud experience.
When you activate Read, it temporarily reads the current page's article text, title, author, and publication name on your device to display the focused reader and track the spoken sentence. Read does not read or collect passwords, cookies, form entries, authentication data, or your general browsing history.
Reader and voice preferences, including cloud-processing consent, are stored with Chrome synchronized storage. Chrome may synchronize them under Google's terms. Read's servers do not receive those saved preferences merely because they are stored.
Browser voice uses the browser's speech service and does not send article text to Read's server.
Cloud voices are optional and disabled until you allow cloud voice processing. Then only the article chunks being spoken and selected voice controls are sent over HTTPS to summary.ainorthstar.tech. The proxy runs on Cloudflare and sends requests only to the selected processor: OpenAI, Fish Audio, or Read services hosted by Modal for Kokoro and Fish S2 Pro.
Read does not include the page URL, page title, cookies, forms, or browsing history. Read's proxy marks responses private and no-store, does not intentionally persist article text, and logs only bounded operational error details such as provider status and text length. Processors handle requests under their applicable service and privacy terms.
Read uses article text only to display it locally and generate requested speech. It does not sell user data, use it for advertising, build browsing profiles, or determine creditworthiness. Transfer is limited to providing cloud speech, protecting the service from abuse, complying with law, or completing a service transaction with any required consent.
Generated audio is held in extension memory for playback and prefetching, then discarded when the page or extension session ends. Saved preferences remain until changed or cleared. Read personnel do not read article text except with specific user consent, where required for security or law, or after permitted aggregation and anonymization.
Use Browser voice to keep article text off Read's server. Grant or revoke Allow cloud voice processing in Settings at any time. Revoking it blocks future cloud requests. Remove the extension or clear its extension data to delete saved settings.
Read's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Read limits all user-data access and transfer to its disclosed single purpose.
